‘Subversion of Space : Stage Design for FAUST’ 는 천상계와 인간계가 가로지르며 형성하는 액자적 세계를 공간적으로 사유한다. 내부와 외부가 수직적으로 전복되는 정육면체의 공간을 내부와 외부의 경계로서 존재하는 ‘문’이라는 존재로서 설정하고, 그 뒤집힘의 순간에 서로 다른 차원이 겹쳐지는 지각의 전이를 마주하게 되는 구조를 구성했다.

‘Es irrt der Mensch, solange er strebt ( 인간은 지향하는 한 방황한다 ).’ 라는 파우스트의 문장처럼, 이 무대는 하나의 의미로 고정되지 않는다. 천상계와 인간계가 교차하는 액자적 세계를 따라, 관객은 내부와 외부의 경계를 넘나드는 공간을 자유롭게 사유한다. 정해진 시점 없이 구성된 무대는 관객을 방황하는 존재로 위치시키고, 그 과정에서 파우스트의 주제의식은 서사가 아닌 지각의 경험으로 드러난다.

‘Subversion of Space: Stage Design for FAUST ‘ spatially reflects on a frame-like world formed through the intersection of the heavenly realm and the human realm. The cubic structure, in which interior and exterior are vertically subverted, is conceived as a “door”—a boundary that simultaneously belongs to both inside and outside. At the moment of inversion, the structure produces a perceptual transition in which different dimensions overlap and are experienced simultaneously.

As expressed in Goethe’s line, “Es irrt der Mensch, solange er strebt.” (Human beings wander as long as they strive), this stage resists fixation into a single meaning. Moving through a frame-like world where the heavenly and human realms intersect, the audience freely navigates the boundaries between inside and outside. Deprived of a fixed viewpoint, the stage positions the audience as wandering subjects, through whom the thematic core of Faust emerges not as narrative, but as an embodied perceptual experience.
