《박지영씨전》은 고전소설 《박씨전》을 현대적으로 재해석한 애니메이션이다. 외모 강박과 남편의 무관심으로 자존감을 잃은 '박 씨'와 미(美)를 상징하는 탈을 쓴 '지영'의 하루를 교차하여 보여준다.
또한 현대 한국의 미인상 6가지를 전통 탈의 형식으로 재현했다. 탈을 쓰고 무대에 올라가면 다른 사람이 되듯 성형수술 또한 한 사람을 본인이 원했던 모습으로 탈바꿈시킨다. 하지만 그 선택은 온전히 본인의 것일까?
'자신을 사랑하라'라는 문장은 당연하고도 이상적이다. 그러나 미디어를 통해 끊임없이 미의 기준을 주입받는 현대 여성으로서는 다소 어렵게 느껴진다. 머리, 눈썹, 눈, 코, 입, 턱, 등등 1cm 단위로 평가받는 사회에서 자존감과 자신감을 지키는 것이 때로는 버겁다.
"The Tale of Park Jiyoung" is a modern reinterpretation of Korean classic novel "The Tale of Ms. Park". It presents a day of "Park," who lost her self-esteem due to her obsession with appearance and her husband's indifference, and "Jiyoung," who wears a mask that symbolizes beauty.
Six beauty standards of modern Korea are also reproduced in the form of traditional masks. Plastic surgery transforms a person into their desired form, just as if they were a different person on stage wearing a mask. But was that choice made entirely on their own?
The phrase "love yourself" is an obvious and ideal sentence. However, it seems somewhat difficult as a modern woman who continuously receives beauty standards through media. In a society where people are judged by 1cm each, such as hair, eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, jaw, etc., it is sometimes burdensome to keep the self-esteem and confidence
