우리는 문 너머 방문자의 존재를 문 주변에 흩어지는 사운드, 진동, 울림 등을 통해 가장 먼저 감지한다. 문을 여닫는 행위 속에는 방문자의 속도, 방향, 힘의 차이가 그대로 드러나며, 이는 도어 사운드의 형태로 언어 없이도 상대의 상황을 유추하고 움직임을 상상하게 만든다. 이 도어 프로젝트는 문을 단순한 물리적 경계에서 떼어내어 관계를 읽어내는 감각적 인터페이스로 확장시키려는 시도다. 방문자는 문을 여닫는 행위 자체로 자신의 존재를 연주하고, 거주자는 그 사운드만으로 상대를 그려낸다. 결국 문은 소통을 제한하는 장치가 아니라, 사운드로 감정과 존재를 주고받는 새로운 관계 매체가 된다.
방문자가 거주자의 문에 도달하기 전 반드시 통과해야 하는 ‘중문(layer)’은 하나의 문이자 도어 사운드의 시퀀스다. 이 레이어 속 문은 스윙, 슬라이딩, 피봇의 작동 방식이 연속적으로 이어지도록 설계되었고, 문이 열리고, 부딪히고, 이동하고, 맞물리는 과정 속 다양한 사운드 요소가 하나의 흐름으로 재구성된다. 서로 다른 작동 방식에서 발생하는 도어 사운드는 각각의 조합, 템포, 리듬의 차이에 따라 공간의 감각을 변주시키고, 거주자는 오로지 방문자가 문을 다루며 만들어내는 도어 사운드로부터 보이지 않는 방문자의 존재를 음악적 흐름 속에서 그려낸다.
We first detect a visitor's presence beyond a door through sounds, vibrations, and reverberations. The act of opening and closing reveals the visitor's speed, direction, and force through door sounds, allowing us to infer their situation without language. This door project extends the door from a physical boundary into a sensory interface that reads relationships. Visitors perform their presence through the act of opening and closing, while residents envision them through sound alone. The door becomes a relational medium where emotions and presence are exchanged through sound.
The "double door layer" that visitors must pass through is both a door and a sound sequence. Designed with swing, sliding, and pivot mechanisms in continuous succession, the sounds of doors opening, colliding, moving, and interlocking are reconstructed into a unified flow. Door sounds from different mechanisms modulate spatial perception through varied combinations, tempos, and rhythms, allowing residents to perceive the invisible visitor's presence within this musical flow.

방문자가 문을 통과할 때 날 수 있는 도어 사운드는 다음 8가지의 도어 장치들로부터 촉발된다. 도어 사운드는 어떤 순서, 어떤 조합으로 들리는가에 따라 방문자의 존재를 달리 상상하게 만든다.
도어 사운드 모형 4개를 사운드 플레이어 위에 올려두면 각 사운드들이 하나의 도어 사운드처럼 연속되어 재생된다. 이는 오로지 사운드만으로 방문자의 존재를 그려내 보며 방문자와 거주자를 매개하는 도어를 디자인하기 위한 체험형 인터랙티브 프로토타입이다.
